Wave is Silent Gliss's own curtain heading. Instead of gathers or pinched pleats, the fabric hangs in one continuous S-shaped curve that holds its form from the track down to the hem. The Wave is created by evenly spaced gliders on a cord inside the track, which stop the fabric being pulled flat, so the curtains fall into the same soft, even wave every time they are drawn with no hand dressing needed. The look is clean and architectural, and it suits modern and traditional rooms alike.
A neat stack when open
When Wave curtains are open they fold back into a narrow, uniform stack that keeps as much of the window clear as possible. Choose the 80mm Wave for deeper, more defined folds, the best choice for most windows, or the 60mm Wave for a shallower profile that suits shorter curtains and tighter recesses. The deeper the Wave, the smaller the stack.
Fabrics tested and proven for Wave
Not every fabric waves well. The 23 fabrics offered here, in 227 colours, run from sheer voiles to full blackout, and every one is tested and proven by Silent Gliss to work well with the Wave heading. You can filter the range by colour and by how much light it lets through. Standard lining adds body and softens the light; blackout lining blocks the most light. A covered heading can also be added, which places a layer of fabric over the Wave heading tape on the reverse side of the curtain.
About Silent Gliss fabrics
Colorama has been Silent Gliss's signature fabric since 1981, and it is still the one most people choose. It comes in two weights. Colorama 1 is a true voile that lets daylight diffuse gently through the room; Colorama 2 has a denser weave that adds shading and privacy, so from outside at night you see only faint silhouettes. Both are woven from Trevira CS yarn, so they are inherently flame retardant, and every fabric in the range is tested for colour fastness.

Cut to fit your track exactly
There is one thing Wave curtains are particular about: what they hang from. The Wave only forms on a Silent Gliss track fitted with the matching Wave gliders, so an ordinary pole will not do. Beyond that there is plenty of choice: hand drawn, corded and electric tracks all take the Wave heading, as does the Metropole, a decorative pole with the glider channel hidden inside. The Wave only lines up when the heading tape matches the glider spacing of the track it hangs from, which is the reason to order curtains and track together: each curtain is cut to suit the exact system on your order, so it hangs correctly first time.

Frequently asked questions
60mm or 80mm Wave?
The Wave depth is set by the spacing of the gliders on the cord. The 80mm spacing gives larger, more defined waves and suits most windows, particularly long drops and heavier fabrics; the deeper Wave also folds back into a smaller stack. The 60mm spacing creates a shallower, softer Wave that lends itself to shorter curtains and lighter fabrics. Allow at least 160mm of fitting depth for the 80mm Wave and 120mm for the 60mm.
How much room do the curtains take up when open?
Open Wave curtains stack back to roughly 23 to 25% of the track width, against around a third for a pleated heading. So on a 3m track, expect the open curtains to occupy about 70 to 75cm. The 80mm Wave stacks slightly smaller than the 60mm.
Which fabric is best?
Colorama 1 is the most popular choice and is at its best unlined, hung as a simple sheer. If privacy or shading matters more, Colorama 2 is the better starting point, and with a blackout lining added it will darken a room fully. The Multicolour weaves are a popular way to add texture without pattern. For bedrooms, the colour-backed dimout fabrics or the Somnia blackout do the work without any lining at all. How do Wave curtains arrive, and how are they hung?
Each curtain arrives with its hooks already fitted, positioned to match the gliders on your track, with the counts calculated so the two line up exactly. Hang every hook on its glider, starting from one end, then work along the top pushing each fold into place so the S-shape runs the same way and the leading edge faces into the room. Finally, tie the curtains loosely for a few days with something soft and clean. This trains the fabric to hold its wave.
What is an adjustable brake, and do I need one?
On a hand drawn track the leading edge of the curtain can creep or bounce forward as it is opened and closed, spoiling the neat stack. An adjustable brake is a small stop fitted inside the track that holds the leading glider in place, keeping the front edge of the curtain in its uniform wave. It only applies to hand operated tracks, and it is optional: the curtains hang and wave perfectly well without one, it simply keeps the leading edge tidier in daily use.
Will Wave curtains work on my existing track?
Only on a Silent Gliss track or Metropole fitted with the Wave glider cord. Standard gliders, other makes of track and ordinary poles will not produce the Wave. If you already have a Silent Gliss track or Metropole with regular gliders, all is not lost: the gliders can be swapped retrospectively, and the Wave glider cord can be ordered from us.
